How to type in Sinhala?
Recently I
had to go through the challenge of typing a document in Sinhala. My sister
needed me to do all the typing but I didn’t know where to begin. Most of all I
have not typed in Sinhala. She wants me to type the document in DL- Paras font
which I heard the name only on that moment.
If you go
for a communication you will have to pay around Rs.50 per page. If you are
extremely busy, that will be the best way. But the thing is they also take some
time.
However it
is better if we know how to type a simple document, in case it will be very
useful. So I thought it is
better to note down my memory unless I will forget it.
Few methods
you can use can be categorized as follows:
1. Type online, then copy & paste in
word.
Following
sites can be used for online typing.
This seems to be the simplest method as we don’t need to be aware
on typing Sinhala letters in key board. We can type Sinhala word as it is read
in English.
2. Type directly in word in
Unicode.
Download
IME from http://www.google.com/inputtools/windows/index.html
Then select
SI(Sinhala) in language bar menu.
After that
this will be the same thing as typing online. You can type Sinhala words as it
is read in English.
3. Type directly in word using Sinhala fonts.
If you
don't have Sinhala fonts, first download and put in to Fonts folder.
For this method we need to owe the
ability type Sinhala letter on key board. This is not very difficult. Initially
you will feel this is somewhat hard. But if you continue for just half an hour
you will be familiar with keys.
